As this could be a security-sensitive issue I'm not asking anyone to post replies directly to the thread, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this please PM me!
Basically I acquired a spare bike with a worn ignition lock, and when riding it home lost the keys forever. I meant to clip the key to something or remove it before riding off, but stupidly I got distracted and forgot! Even more stupidly the spare key was on the same ring as I'd just bought the bike and was riding it home.
Overcoming the seat and ignition lock is not a problem, but I'll only get a few more miles unless I can fill the tank up again! Also I don't want to damage the tank in the process.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi If the key is the same for all three, ignition, tank and seat all you need is the number off the ignition block on the face were the plunger comes out to lock the steering wheel. The number will be something like 4QMB81the last three in red are what you need to get a replacement key. Hope this is some help.

Thanks to all for your advice and PM's. The security issue was just that if we talk publicly about how to overcome any particular lock, it may also apply to the ignition / steering lock...
Re. replacement key, is it possible to get a new ignition switch to match the existing key number? i.e. if I get a new key to fit the existing petrol cap and seat lock, can I get a new matching ignition lock so it's still a 'one key fits all' scenario?
I expect the answer is 'Yes, but only from Honda' (£££). If so, I'll just get a new generic ignition lock and live with the 2 key situation (no big deal, it's a spare bike anyway).

I would expect it to be possible, but possibly only by honda, I don't know. It might be cheaper to get the locks in the buddyseat and tank to be made to fit the key of the ignition....simpler locks, that is, if you can remove them. Like said, I already have a 2 key situation....doesn't botter me. I just get very worried looks sometimes at petrol stations when I don't take off my helmet (flip up the lid), grab my other set of keys to fill up, with the key still in the ignition... ;D Having said that, I only do that at pump where you pay by directdebit at the pump, and you swipe the card before you fill up....so the worried looks are mostly by other people, not the employees. One thing to remember though: if for whatever reason you removed your buddyseat....remember the keys dangling at the back of your bike before driving off

talking bout key's i found this site www.motorcyclekeys.com/blanks2.htmlundoing the bolts on the cap wont free it, it'll still be locked, i saw a tank on e-bay which is the right colour for me but after reading "no key" and it's locked... talk about usless! .. it's been relisted a few times.. hehe

you could try a heavy duty screw or tap into the key chamber, put this on a reverse hammer and hope... like in the movies.. i wouldn't advise drilling cuz of possible sparks into the tank, am not sure if there is any stainless steel in the gubbins, i doubt it as all i can see is ally, brass and nickle.. failing that go to a honda dealer but it's probably cheaper to buy a second hand tank....

Trying to be home long enough to have a go...!!!
I've acquired a matching replacement ignition lock and petrol cap anyway, but what I may do is get keys ordered from the number on the old ignition barrel as that will (a) allow me to remove the old cap easily and have as a spare, and (b) allow me to use the unlock the seat again.
We'll see how it goes.
