My god what a job! Just had to do mine as it wasnt doing as it should, had 15 volts at 3,000rpm with out light, put on the lights and no matter what rpm it still was only kicking out 12 volts! Not good!!! So got one from my friendly local bike breakers for £50! Came home and decided to fit it. My god what had i let myself in for. At least with this cold weather i kept warm working on her outside!!!!! Wheel off, tank off, shock off, reg/rec off (big crack straight across the middle). Go to fit new one and had to change the mounting bolts as mine had corroded themselves to the reg/rec (must be lurv), then try and line everything up!!!!!! Well it took me a good hour of pissing about, why oh why did honda put it under the battery box behind the rear shock, why. Anyway, its on and charging healthly (14 volts at 3,000rpm with the lights on)

That is not a job I'd fancy doing outside at this time of year, well done Odie.
Not only is it a sod of a place to locate the Reg, it's also pretty stupid. Unit gets hot, so stick some cooling fins on - they did that, but why put it somewhere it's going to get poor airflow across it?
