With the colder weather now upon us I have been looking around to add some sort of fairing for protection. Has anyone out there found anything that both fits well and doesn't look too bad? I'm reluctant to do this as I like the naked bike look, but!!!!

Well after months of debating and searching everywhere, I have ordered a headlamp fairing from M&P Motorcycles. The model I chose was the Vampire, by Powerbronze. I struggled with making this choice as I wasn't sure if I wanted a half fairing or just a Fly screen. In the end I decided to go for the "in the middle" option. This still allows me to keep the naked bike look but also give a little more protection. Anyway as soon as I get it on, I will post some pictures. By the way tried to buy direct from Powerbronze but they were going to charge me 35 UK to ship to Italy, M&P are only charging me 10 UK . www.geocities.com/gontv650/vampire.jpg

Well better late than never they say!! I have finally fitted the Fairing , after spending a lot more time than I thought, trying to find a colour that wasn't to far off the original. The fairing wasn't that difficult to fit. It brackets onto the two main Headlamp bolts and then has a brace which goes down to secure the bottom of the fairing, This was a bit of a chore as you have to resort to three different strips of metal all bolted together to make the right connection underneath. Think that once I get a chance , I will see about getting one made up that is one piece with the right bends in it. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures. www.geocities.com/gontv650/bike_r2.JPGwww.geocities.com/gontv650/bike_l.JPGLet me know what you think... Will put it to the test the end of this month as I will be taking the bike from Florence , Italy to Madrid, Spain.

I think it looks great, it suits the bike and as you say keeps the naked look....
But what happened to your brake lever?

Hi, just got around to looking at fairing. EXCELLENT! Love the colour of bike as well. just added givi Nose fairing to mine, amazed at the difference it makes. Bikes feels bigger and more noticable on road ;D (probabaly my imagination) But wind is so much less on the chest. Recommend this type of fairing for any naked type bike. safe riding jim

The headlamp fairing looks good. Just thought I'd add: I fitted a Puig headlamp screen (from Hein- Gericke) on my auNTy V, with KTM hangaurds (EBAY), these have been very effective keeping the cold off my fingers on the runs out this month with "summer" gloves. They almost fitted straight on, a little modificationw by careful use of a heatgun was required to ease contact to the clutch cable. have fun, stay safe John

Hi John,
The KTM handguards sound like a great idea. Can you tell me the model number or which KTM bike they came from? Can you post a link to the ebay site where they are sold?

Hi Jake,
Forgot to mention in the above, I also have Renthal handlebars fitted (Road Bike Low, cut down to a width similar to stock OE bars because throttle cables weren't long enough) I don't think these are far away from the standard NTV OE bar profile
I bought the KTM handguards via Ebay the seller was: Laguna Motorcycles Hart St. Maidstone Kent tel. 01622 681765
from the invoice their stock no was 6000207910030
sorry thats all the info I have
best regards John

Hi All,
I'm also looking for either a half or full fairing for my '91 650 Revere. Have looked at Powerbronze but a little out of my price range at the moment. Are there any fairings from different bikes that may fit if purchased second-hand? I'm looking at doing a respray, so will match the colours up down the track. Any suggestions?
I quite like the naked look of the bike, so would prefer a half fairing if anyone has any ideas?!?
Cheers, Paul

Hi All - Well, since this post is titled"fairings" I reckon it can be legitimately hijacked to talk of all thins "fairings". I got my bike with a Powerbronze voyager fairing already fitted. The voyager gives excellent protection but with the shorter of the two available screens I get a shed load of turbulence around my head .. actually, It's quite high frequency and at speeds in excess of 60mph it ends up blurring my vision (very slightly). I've messed around with screen angle, complete fairing height (adjusting the position the main frame is bolted to the head-tube), fairing position front to back ... boy have i had fun - I can almost work on the fairing in my sleep .. weeks, and many hours later, still not sorted! I have resorted to ordering the taller fairing from Powerbronze and will let you know how I get on with it. Another niggle (just in case any of you are thinking of adding a voyager) is that the headlight ends up quite a way forward of its original position with the voyager with the result that the cable loom from the LH bar switch is barely long enough when you put the bars on left lock (while "off the bike" maneuvering or for steering lock) - I've had to extend some connections at the far end of the loom and have now bought a secnd LH switch and loom assembly from Ebay so I can extend everything generously .. because the situation is going to be worsened when I raise the bars. Oh the joys of non-standard bikes !!! - Tweaker

Tweaker, If you are feeling very brave, I know what works. Drill the existing screen and make a small extension with some thin polycarbonate (thin so it will bend to the existing screen's shape). Mount the extension on spacers and the airgap makes the air go much higher than an ordinary tall screen. Keeps the flies out of your teeth. Cheers.

Thanks for that Bill - Yes, I'm aware of the effect you are talking about but at this moment I am chicken . If / When the taller screen doesn't prove to be a good solution I may set to and make "one that will really do the job" out of the two. On the Deauville I ended up with a MRA vario touring screen that had an extra fail at the top of the screen .. also, many touring bikes (BMs, the new Deauville etc..) make use of the effect of a channel to extend the region of laminar flow above the top of the screen. - Thanks a lot mate, you're dead right .. if I end up needing to I hope I don't end up with two dead screens !!! All the best, Tweaker
