Hi folks. Have noticed my NTV pops on idle and when I come off the throttle particularly when its warm. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar problems and what might be the cause

Hi riffraff,
My old NTV650 was prone to popping on the over-run. It was due to the fuel mixture becoming lean as the throttle was rolled off. I quite liked it as it alerted car drivers to my approach when commuting. If it is a problem to you then I would suggest checking your carbs over and check that the jetting has not been changed from standard. If the carbs are worn then air can leak into the mixture causing leaning-out.
Hope this helps,
Nick.

i would check your plugs 1st, make sure their is no build up which will cause pre-ignition ect, then the high-tension plugs and cables, then check for leaks or holes on the exhaust... then i would look at the carbs making sure their are no air leaks into or out of the carbs (overtightening the sealing clips can cause leaks), failing all these i would pull the carbs apart and check, another thing to mention is the ignition pickup under the clutch cover.. if this magnetic sensor pick's up fine pieces of metal it can cause ignition problems.. let us know how you get on

another vthing to check whic alot of people overlook is you exhaust,do you have any leaks in it? especially in the collector box underneath.

Hi Graham, No leaks from the collector box but I am running a much shortened can now with not a lot of sound reduction in it.Reckon that might be the cause of some of the problem

i'd guess that Can is not giving enough backpressure, this will change the timing on the exhaust ports through valve bouncing.. the Cans probably not long enough i think it's 17" or there abouts from the downpipe join to the Can tip is optimum, the stubby works so well because it has a collector box on it, fitting a removable baffle could sort it.... or buying one of my PIPES
