Hi All,
I am learning new things about my bike every day at the moment. This afternoon I discovered that when I turn my handlebars to left lock with the clutch pulled in, the cable tightens and pulls the clutch in a bit more! The effect of this is that the clutch bite point moves so that I have the lever almost fully out before the bike will start edging forward. I look like a right berk when I then straighten the bars, the clutch bites, and I take off like a scalded cat in whatever direction the bike is pointed! Is there a correct clutch cable route that I should check? Thanks in advance, Nick.

Sounds like you definitely need a new clutch cable….. Even if you don’t, keeping one spare is always a good idea. If I remember rightly the cable should run around the shortest available route around the steering stem and passes through a clip on the right-hand side frame downtube… (My clutch cable is longer because I've fitted one off a Deauville and is therefore routed slightly differently from a standard Revere/NTV cable). For adjustment see pages 20 to 21 of the handbook below. See also, page 2.35 of Haynes manual. www.honda.de/fahrerhandbuecher/NTV650_37MZ6620.pdf

my revere has been languishing in the garage for some time since it very suddenly became difficult to start ,then would cut out now won't start at all . a mechanic said it was fuel pump but have got fuel to carbs ok ,also have reasonable spark , what I have noted is thyat when i apply the choke it feels as if nothing is happening until the very end of it's travel, also I can't see much happening inthe carbs ,is the cable easy to change or should it cost much in a garage if this is the problem

See member Saxby’s remedy in the link below. It’s the final post in the thread. growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=engine&thread=1282&page=1#7786 If the choke cable is the problem, it shouldn’t cost much to have it sorted. See pages 4.10 - 4.11 of manual for more information on choke cable: wbieniec.kis.p.lodz.pl/moto/ntv/manual/4.pdfSee link below for other possible causes: www.hawkworks.net/manual/4.html#4-2-troubleshooting
