I am trying to trace a selection of rattles that I am getting from my bike. The bike is completely un-faired. I have had a feel around for any loose bits but I can't find any. The stands seem secure, I have checked the plastics and I have even cable-tied the passenger footpegs up. I have had the radiator off and have replaced the radiator fan, the forks have been rebuilt. I have had the petrol tank off numerous times and everything is relatively secure under there. I still seem to get a rattle from the front end and a rattle from the rear. Are there any secret places where the NTV likes to collect loose nuts or am I going mad? Any advice appreciated, Nick.

Hi Nick, Maybe, as Ilegalalien has pointed out in a previous post: ‘…the oil pump chain (sits behind the clutch drum) this can stretch and will make more of a rattle when the carbs are out and the oil is thin, however i doubt this will cause vibration just a annoying tapping at low revs, i would also check your engine bolts are all tight...’growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=engine&action=display&thread=1015

Thanks Jake,
I don't think the rattles are from the engine. They are most noticeable when I hit bumps or ride over cobbles. I am starting to suspect the centre stand or perhaps the exhaust system as it is short of a bolt or two!

It could well be the exhaust or stand(s). I was going to say rear footpegs as they wear and rattle, but if you've tied them up already I guess that's out.
.....you could always use earplugs!! I wear them for all but the shortest trips (pretty much all my trips are long trips) and wouldn't do without them now.
Just a thought....it's not your bones is it?

the worst things on the NTV for rattles are the stands and this might sound daft the mirrors, i have a rattle in 1 of my mirrors, so i have drilled a hole at the bottom and im about to fill it with expandable foam. the other thing to check are ur levers and rear plastics.
