change the air box for K&N?

all you out there must have noticed how expensive the air filters are,
my questions is this, has anyone exchanged the air box for a bolt on chrome k&n filter?
what do you do with all the pipes attached to the plastic air box?
is it a good idea?
does the jetting need changing?
can anyone help out there?

Good idea, but....

K&N already make a replacement air filter for the
NTV/Revere. It only needs cleaning from time to time.....
