Well my half-share bike is back home with its daddy after being left under a bush for 5 years by its other cruel daddy. A quick jet wash to get rid of 5 years of accumulated pine needles and surprisingly its in quite good condition. Idea is to try get it up and running and MOT'd. Have managed to get it started by emptying all the old fuel out of the tank / carbs and then pouring a small amount of fuel down each carbs neck. Just gets it ticking over enough to start pulling the fuel through. Q: Water leak, previous daddy said it used to lose water out of the coolant system and that the handling felt funny ? Q: Any other things I should be looking out for ?

I guess the first thing I'd do is replace the engine oil and filter. And bear in mind that the carbs may need stripping and cleaning...... Check the electrics, there’s a tendency for the regulator/rectifier and starter relay to fail sometimes. And make sure the battery is in decent condition. I'd probably buy a new battery anyway..... I'd also replace plugs and air filter straightaway. And replace the coolant and check the radiator for leaks..... If the handling is suspect, then check suspension e.g. fork springs and oil and also the fork oil seals. And check steering head bearings..... Single front disk can sometimes warp. Once the bike is on the road check that 2nd gear is working properly because it can sometimes act up.... Also, don't forget the brakes.... and shaft drive oil. wbieniec.kis.p.lodz.pl/moto/ntv/manual/1.pdf www.hawkworks.net/manual/3.html

Hi Arika. Having torn down what was left of a wreck last year. I noticed that where the looms move, bend around frame members, or are pinched the insulation was worn through, and arcing to earth. Could save you hours of fault tracing later.
Just a thought. Chris

Mine had been stood a while before I bought it. No fuel getting through to cylinders was (eventually) traced to seized fuel pump - stripped and cleaned and it's been ok since.

I didn't mention in the first post that it took me a few days of head scratching before I spotted the split in the fuel line from the pump to the carbs.
I kept wondering why the fuel pump was making such a dry sucking sound !
