Finally traced an intermittent rattle while moving to the rear caliper bouncing on its mounting. A mechanic from the local MOT station investigated and told me to forget about it - the brake is still operating properly and he wouldn't consider the noise an advisory issue.
Is this a known factor with NTVs? Shall I continue rattling along, or should I renew the caliper?
Thanks.

Not had this problem with my caliper yet.... (People sometimes complain that the rear brake pads are binding and the rear wheel doesn’t spin freely, which can be difficult to sort out.) It doesn’t sound like a serious problem to me. As long the brake is working and no bolts are loose. Haynes recommends applying a drop of loctite.... But if you're worried about it, and it gets any worse, there's no harm in replacing the caliper. But a secondhand caliper might be better or worse than the one you've already got..... www.cmsnl.com/honda-ntv600-revere-1991-england_model3734/partslist/F__1200.html

Thanks. I'll rattle along for a while and see how it goes. I'll only change the caliper if I sense any deeper troubles.

Hi leslie52. The caliper body should float laterally (sideways) on the forward pin (item 19 in the fiche), and on the sleeve 18. Providing no holes have ovaled, it sounds like the boot sleeve rubber has given up the ghost. It takes up the slack, around the sleeve 18 and buffers vibration. If that is where the play is and where the noise is coming from, that is your prime candidate. Mine still had a little play when i replaced it. Take the part number (43132KT7761) from the Fiche that Jake linked to. and search in www.Wemoto.com in the OEM search box, and www.Davidsilverspares.co.uk The part is about 3.50 www.Davidsilverspares.co.uk shows as in stock. It is fairly simple to replace. Best of luck Chris

Thank you.
I see exactly the parts you mean. It will take me a while to organise the job, but if the rattle is curable for £3.50, that's a bargain.
Now to find the oil-leak!
Leslie.
