Hi
I have recently purchased a 1995 NTV 650 and all is well except occasionally the engine will nearly die. I think it is worse when cold on tickover (or that's when I notice it) - it starts first time every time and ticks over nicely except on occasion the revs drop out and it nearly stalls then recovers immediately? I don't notice it doing this under normal riding. I am a bit concerned it is the start of something bigger. Any ideas on what this might be would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

What have you checked so far to sort it out? Have you tried adjusting the idle speed? Normally, when I buy a new bike (second hand) I check the plugs, air filter and of course the oil and oil filter. But when were the plugs and air filter last changed? I’d also make sure that the inline fuel filter is not blocked and that the petrol tap on the tank is OK. The Haynes manual indicates that rough idling could be down to a carb overhaul. But if it’s not the carbs, it suggests that the pilot screws may need adjustment. See page 4.4 of manual: wbieniec.kis.p.lodz.pl/moto/ntv/manual/4.pdfThe only other thing I can think of is a problem with the choke cable. growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=engine&action=display&thread=1282
