hi my name is david reside in nottinghamshire england.after many years of collecting and restoring honda fours i decided to brake the mould and have something diffrent and the choice was between cb500s/vt500/or 650 bros.ended up with a 1995 ntv650j.bike is in good condishion and i went for my first run yesterday.seemed strange at first being a v twin and shaft drive but found after a short while the bike felt right brakes comfort and handling are very good i allso find it quite fast for it,s size.one thing i have noticed is the shaft drive seems to have a little roughness at lower revs but seems ok as the revs increase and not being used to shaft drive bikes do not know if this is normal or something is not quite right.as an insite to this can the drive unit on the engine be removed for repair without stripping the engine.thanks for now david

Hi David and welcome.
The shaft drive does tend to snatch/rattle at low revs. It's happier if the engine revs are above 2k rpm, but if you've gentle you can go lower. Having the carbs synced and engine running well will improve the shaft drive roughness. You can remove the shaft with the swing arm, although there's not much to it!
Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

hi thanks for your reply.i have yet to get the carbs set up i have a set of davida guages i use on the fours are there take off,s i can tap in to to synk or is it good old play it by ear.the part of the drive shaft i asked about is the part bolted to the engine that the drive shaft connects to. in the manual it say split the crankcases but will the unit come off without this or will the gear box collaps on removal.thanks for now david
