I guess it depends on a number of things….
On a warm day and if you take the bike on a long run, the engine gets hot and occasionally the radiator fan cuts in… But on a cold day, I find that the bike performs better because (I read somewhere) that cold air is denser and contains more oxygen molecules and therefore combustion is improved.
I recently changed the radiator coolant and found that the bike pulled better on acceleration. This one of the reasons why its important to change the oil at regular intervals because the oil helps cool the engine and its viscosity will degrade with age.
But yeah, on my bike I’ve got a motad exhaust fitted, which doesn’t have the heat shield of the original Honda exhaust. I guess overheating can also be caused if the carbs and valves are not adjusted properly, or if the air filter is dirty.
But I’m used to the warm right foot on the NTV now, I hardly notice it anymore…..

hehe, today I took a passenger on the bike (I don't usually do that) and after a 20 minute drive he mentioned something about his right foot being fried So I guess my own foot is to far forward to notice

Yep, me too. Since I put the big fairing on the bike I've noticed a hot draught in the lower thigh region in traffic. Might come in useful in the winter though.

I had an NTV with a massive full Rickman fairing. The heat from the downpipes in summer was unbearable at times. I even drilled some holes in the fairing but that made no difference. That was when we had summers, of course.

only problem in winter is THE COLD LEFT LEG, ;D makes me wonder if the NTV is worthy of a custom made exhaust with a pipe each side of the bike

And what about the brass monkey syndrome..... One of things I found when first riding the NTV was the way the tank seemed to funnel the cold air straight into your groin (or maybe it's just me).....
