what happens to the lighting on the idiot bulbs? when it's died will it still turn over on the starter motor IF so is it a revere or NTV? i would check your connection boxes inside the headlamp (especially the ignition one.. 3 pin i think), if the contacts are green and oxidised then it's time for a clean with a small file or some kind of abrasive paper, clean the brass inside without damaging them.. afterwards spray em up with wd40 or similar, also check your kill switch.. take a look at the copper contacts.. if it still continues i would check all wiring boxes for bad connections and wires for worn insulation (especially where wire meets a metal object), also check your fuses are not getting wet and are seating properly..

Ditto, bound to be something like that.
I have occasionally noticed a one-off misfire when riding into very heavy rain...

just to let all know i spent over 4 hours striping the bike down to the wires and cleaning them and putting insulting tape around them and then putting wd40 on all the ht leads and coil so all i need is alot of rain to see if this works. this is scotland so rain should be here by the weekend. ;D I will let you no if this works. bob600

Just to let you know it did it again this time we had no rain for three days and its still doing it this time today i was on the m9 motorway doing 70mph and then every thing just stopped i had to pull over to the hard shoulder and try and start it up again then 10 min later still on the m9 it did it again this time it was just a loss of power and i managed to keep going till all power came back. What I'm not sure is on the way back i had no problem at all i covered about 45miles and i did not miss a beat. so I'm thinking it might be a carb problem rather than an spark problem. what do you think

just a thought but have you checked your CDI unit, see if it's dry and no oxidised contacts, also make sure the weather rubber is sealing properly, to me it sounds like a electrical problem as a carb problem often only shows on one cylinder unless it's the fuel pump, look on the bright side... by the time you've found this grumble you'll have a decent NTV with the cleanest electrics this side of lock ness, but often these niggles really get people down.. percevier mate... i hate not finding a problem

true Jake, a dodgy switch or connection box will cut out the engine, check the wires arn't earthing out ect, this can be bypassed at the connection box to do a rolling check or test with a multimeter whilst moving it all about and putting the stand up n down

Could it be fuel starvation as it's only happening when you are on sustained wide throttle opening IE motorways. Check fuel flow from tank, check fuel pump and filter, could try running on reserve and see if it cures the problem if so could be dirt or water in the tank. ( don't forget to change the tap back to the ON position. Sheekbiker ( Mick )

Just to give you all an update (it,s still doing it ) iv looked at the wires to the cdi and there fine its starting to do my head in we had no rain so i went for a blast around the city and it did not miss a beat but when i got on to the by-pass and reached (65-70mph) again it slows down and then it cuts out when i pull over it starts right up again. then i went the other-way about 15 miles nothing happened at all. Then today pissing down with rain it dose it again on the by-pass. i better off not going on the by-pass and just stay in the city. . do you think the 33bhp kit might be causing the problem?? bob

Bob, how long have you had the bike, and did it stand for a while before you started using it? Unleaded petrol has this nasty habit of forming into a crusty hard congealed mess in the bottom of the fuel tank around the fuel tap and in the carb. float bowls after a few weeks, and if you do not get it all out before you try to run the bike you will get bits into the jets, and airways of the carbs, this can cause this type of problem.
Try removing the tank and taking out the fuel tap to check it is not partially blocked, and drop the carb bowls off and check the same.
