Since I'm under 21 and have just gotten my bike license I have had to get my NTV650 restricted to 33BHP for 2 years (after which I can have it unrestricted). It cost me £250 to get the legal restrictor kit fitted and tested, so not cheap but it has to be done or my insurance is invalid so... anyway I had quotes for £300 upwards from others so this was the cheapest I could find. When I went to collect it today I was surprised and pleased to find that it's hardly affected the bikes performance at all! It's still got all of it's low-end torque and pulling power, I guess just the top-end is affected - although I havent found a need to go past about 6000RPM yet anyway. Anyway, I'm happy with it, I still have a bike that will pull like a train. At least I'm 100% legal to ride it now. Just thought I'd let you guys know my experience in case anyone else is thinking of a bike like this for a first bike

Nice post, paradOx, there should be many more motorists like you around. But maybe most of us "NTVers" are so. Let the racing-minded buy Ducatis.

Hubcaps NTV650 is also restricted hers tops out around 95........so really you dont loose much top end
compairing hers to mine it seems to me that the mid range grunt is affected

I've actually had mine upto 101, according to the speedo, but it's a bit out so it probably is somewhere around 95. My restrictors definately did affect the power though, it just doesn't pull quite like it should. Looking forward to getting my restrictors out, but in the meantime, I'm riding a CG125 to work, so alas, Dot'll be like a rocket at the weekend!!!
ETA:
How come your restriction was so expensive? Mine was 190 including fitting.

I know the restrictor itself was £160 and then the £90 quid labour. I think they reset and tuned the carburettor at the same time and dyno'ed the bike which will have taken some more time I guess. I've noticed the bike starts a bit more easily and idles more smoothly so I'm convinced he retuned the carb as part of the installation. I would have preferred a cheaper and quicker job but I couldn't find anywhere else that would restrict it for less than that around my area. Ah well... Money isn't much of a worry to me, I just want to be able to ride my bike legally. I'm still happy with it

Oh I see, that's why then, lol, they didn't tune my carb or dyno test the bike.
ETA:
Though your restrictor kit and labour were more expensive than mine, I had £150 for the kit and a further £40 for fitting.

Hi, after reading your thread, makes me think everyone else's must have so much more power than mine.
I got mine tested for power output and it topped out at 29 B.H.P. It still pulls over 100 M.P.H. on the clock, I've just had a new clutch basket and clutch plates e.t.c and feels no diffrence in power as before, it still starts, runs and pulls fine everyday,
What power was your bike on before being tested?
Cheers Joe

My bike never got tested, either before or after. Don't know what it is kicking out, but it is considerably less than when it was unrestricted.
