Has anybody any experience in replacing / refurbing waterpump. I think the 2 seals on the pump shaft need replacing but it says in the haynes manual the pump is sold as an assembly. I can only find one water pump oil seal on wemoto.com but not sure if it means that it is the 2 seals sold as a pair.

are you loosing oil or coolant? this will tell you which seal you need. The outer one will loose coolant and the inner oil, both can be repaired with gasket glue quite easily, the inner one is round about 70mm at a guess and can be replaced whilst a friend tilts the bike over thus saving time draining and replacing engine oil, the outer one has many bends and curves and sits between the two impeller covers.. this one has a mind of it's own whan refitting and can be easily damaged.. i use a small drop of superglue to hold it in position, both gaskets will require you drain and replace the engine coolant which is a easy job, which ever option you choose (gasket glue or a new gasket) make sure to give both surfaces a good clean.

First I think telfordntv is refering to the seals whilst ilegalalian is refering to gaskets. The seals are common throughout the Honda range. I wouldnt know what is available on the aftermarket but Honda do the parts required. The seal which holds the coolant in is a mechanical seal in other words it is not a rubber lip seal. It is easly broken so be careful with it. There is a seperate seal to keep the oil in also. It is not a dificult job to repair. If the coolant is running out the little vent hole DO NOT block the hole. The coolant may make its way into the oil as it is under pressure when warm. (there is a couple of slightly differant assemblies used and I cant remember which is on the NTV)

Got pump off at weekend and ordered both oil seals plus gasket. There are 2 oils seals on the shaft - an o-ring type on the water end and a rubber seal ( the type with a spring in) on the oil end. The gasket is a rubber shaped seal and am replacing this as well - whole lot was £17 from honda dealer. The symptons are a tiny oil leak ( tea sthingy full / day ) coming through drain hole at bottom of water pump which I believe means that the seal on the oil end of shaft has gone. Easy job to get off and pump itself seems OK - will let you know how I get on as parts will be here Tuesday.
