I could just be being stupid here (kind of a hobby of mine)
I've just taken the world's ugliest fairing off of an NTV (a Rickman Tempest the size of Wales), and am looking to remount the headlight, using the original chrome plates.
Now I still have the chrome plates and bolts, but I cannot for the life of me see what they attach to. I assume there should be some form of bracket that bolts to the steering head or fork legs, or am I missing something?
If so, what's it called, so I don't have to describe something unknown to a breaker? Anyone kind enough to post a pic of what the mounting should look like so I can knock up some fantastically ugly replacement out of bits of old greenhouse?
Thanks

The headlight brackets (original chrome plates) are attached to the 'headlight bracket frame' and the prongs on the top of this frame fit into the holes in the underside of the top yoke…. (see pages 6.10 and 6.11 in the Haynes manual and Fig. 8.14). When the fairing was fitted, its possible that this frame was removed, in which case you’ll need to get a second-hand or new one from David Silvers. They shouldn’t be to expensive. Pops can probably give you the parts number….and show you a picture. www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/

Jaz, I'll give you a hand mate. All we'll need is a mole wrench and a 4 pound hammer. Piece of cake.

Hi bill Welcome back on board pic came out real well, see the fairing is as discreet as ever ( ) LoL.. ;D ;D as long as it don't turn into an ikea bike when we put it back together and we don't get left with a small bag of nuts and bolts.... --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jake THAT was what i was looking for...good find best regards jaz

Lovely job. Was pleased till I phoned Lings. £77! Ouch. Will have to be done, though. Have got big iron bars sticking out all over the place at the mo and the headlight's about a yard in front of the bike...
Thanks.

If you haven't got one yet, go for 2nd hand, there are still a few about but get the seller to inspect the spot welds carefully as they rust and break off leaving you with a very wobbly headlight (pet hate of mine). That and the cost explains why good ones are always in demand 2nd hand.
Fitting / removal requires disconnection of all the cables which pass through it which means, unfortunately, that many folks just cut them off....
