According to bible it should be changed every 25'000miles. Gear oil is quite different compared to engine oil. Doesnt take as much hammer

Mine oozes a tiny bit from the cap over the axle, if it's left on the sidestand for a while when hot...

Hovis- I agree with Mexi- the final drive oil doesn't get contaminated with combustion products, so only needs changing when the additives get a bit tired. But then, it only takes a cupful so I suppose you could change it more often if you like, and it's always a good check to look at the old oil for nasty shiny bits in it. Bill

DP,its could be down to the seal or,could try tightening down the cap very slightly, but becareful, you know what Japanese aluminium is like !!!!!!!!!!!, sometimes due to the heat the oil will thin sufficiently for it to get past the seal, this happenend on my previous bike in extremely hot weather around the rocker cover, just one of those things. Yes Bill i've always been one for regular lube changes no matter where they are so will do it more often than the stated intervals.

It's the seal; the cap is only a plastic cover. I'm not worried about it...

If its leaking past the seal it requires changing, in theory the seal should hold oil weather its hot or cold.

If oil's seeping out, there's always a risk of crud / water seeping in, especially given where's it's located....
