OK folks another question, weather over here has been quite warm today and i had a long hard run on the old Revere, when i stopped after about 60 miles my bike proceeded to dump some coolant out of the overflow, Now i guess thats because the engine was so hot and it's the expansion tank overflow ,came home and although same distance and very hot did not do it again,am i right or do any of you folks know anything different ?? Cheers Hovis

What was the gauge saying? Did you hear the fan coming on?
Probably just a slight overfill sorting itself out. If it does it again, you'd need to be thinking rad cap, thermostat, and maybe head gasket, depanding on what the gauge and fan are telling you.
Mine typically runs with the needle only around it's own width above the thick white bit on the gauge face. I've seen it maybe halfway up in slow traffic, but never had the fan come on. Sit for long enough at idle and it will come on tho...

HI Thats normal for it to dump the coolant when it gets hot.Its just the overfill coming out it only does it when it gets a bit warm. Yesterday I had just the same I was doing the carb syncronisation and was running it for a while.Got a bit warmer than the normal temp and just dumped half a cup full this is normal if there is excess in the expansion bottle

Thanks guys, Yeah think it must have been as you guys say and as i thought,it was hot in Belfast yesterday and i'd just had a 60 mile run to get there, the expansion tank was pretty full to begin with, glad thats normal.DP mines the same as yours normally, the needle just sits above the white bit but will rise a little at standstill,i think they have to get pretty hot before the fan cuts in,thats probably why some guys fit a manual switch for the fan Hovis

Hi Hovis- I agree- shouldn't think you have a problem. I use a torch down the hole and look through the side of the bottle to check the recommended level- bit hard to see otherwise. It's probably an idea to short out the lead to the temperature sensor on the radiator against the frame to make sure the fan is ok- mine wouldn't work once because a piece of crud had found its way between the blades and the shroud (and it took some delicate ferkling to get it out ) Anyway- glad you've seen some good weather. hi lads, I've noticed mine blowing out a little coolant when its been left ticking over, and noticed the fan coming on in traffic too, the temp guage is about half way at this stage, but soon goes down when you get out on the road again. Just back from the Isle of Man last week, i was on the zx7R, seen loads of NTV's there, mostly German i think, seen a really rough black one too with a english reg, think it spent most of its life sliding down the road, sorry if it belongs to some of you lads..
