Just a quick couple of questions: On this bike there is a whine in second gear, not a "the box is knackered sound" is this normal as I've read the box can be a bit agricultural. Where does the temp guage normally read ?

I dont notice my box whine in any gear and my temp gauge can be anywhere between 1/4 up the gauge on a normal ride to 2/3 up the gauge on a hot australian summer day fighting thru peak hour traffic.
I find the gearshifts have a "metal on metal" feel to it even after a fresh oil change, and occasionally I find neutral if I don't give the gear lever a definite nudge from 1st to 2nd. What are other peoples experiences with the gearbox?

Well, have done a few miles/kilometers on mine now and so far nothing that sounds like a whine coming from the gearbox. The gear change can be a little clunky but nothing I would call worrying. In fact I would probably say thats normal based on all the things I have read about this bike.
Temperature once warm sits half way between 1/4 and 1/2 and doesn't seem to move much.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

The boxs can be whinney things. Not all of them though and it doesnt seem to be an indication of how long they will last. I had a run on an 06 Deauville a couple of weeks back and it didnt sound much differant from my own bike. The smoothness of changing does seem to be improved. Second gear has been known to give trouble if abused, it may start to jump out of gear. Not all temp gauges read the same
