It was chuffin' cold last week ,but I did not realise how cold. My speedo drive gave up last week, it would have been on Tuesday, got to work OK but it got ill on the way home, so pulled it apart in the comfort of the shed, cold but no frost, this suprised me as I only put new wheel bearings in 2 weeks previously and all was well. Anyway I pulled it all apart and it was a pig to get the bevel drive apart from the casing, to find that the grease in the bevel drive had actually Frozen up! and locked up the drive which then allowed the drive dogs to slice pieces of the nylon section. So I decided to look up some old tables in the engineering books I have and found that at -0.9 deg C at 40 mph wind chill factors pulls temp. down to about -21 deg C. Don't know how low it actually was but it was but it was a lot lower than -0.9 and I was doing about 60 mph when it stopped. So this is replaced and a much lighter grease is in place. Anyone else had a similar problem?

Didn't feel that bad, but I suppose the wet on the forks and the chilling effect of the windchill and the relatively large area of drive casing and the remoteness from engine heat allowed it to freeze up.
