Above is the collector box and silencer connecting pipe on my Revere - most of the bike is clean enough but this area looks as though it has been sitting in a bath of salt water since it was made in '92... I'm going to remove and scrap the silencer & collector box, inspection with a screwdriver has proven the box to be holed in numerous places, I think it's too far gone to weld. I've already destroyed the clamp onto the downpipe (separated into two bits when I put a spanner on the clamp bolt) and rounded the head of the allen bolt holding the collector box onto the centre stand assembly. Given the above damage, my plan for removing the silencer is to drill out the collector box bolt and saw the silencer off the downpipes, chiselling/filing off residual bits of rotten silencer. Does this seem reasonable? Has anyone removed such a badly corroded silencer before? Thanks muchly in advance, Niall

I would soak the area with penetrating oil and then unbolt the rear downpipe at the cylinder and twist the downpipe. That worked for mine but it took awhile.

Plenty of heat usually works well, together with oil.
I suspect it will all fall apart when you start to dismantle it.
If so, the remains can be removed after the pipes are taken off the bike using cutting / filing & heat.
A cheap angle grinder from the likes of Aldi or Lidl's would make short work of the rotten bits!
Paul.
