Hi! I have an ntv 650 and am having trouble with the front cylinder, It does not run atall on idle, comes in at around 1600rpm and missfires up till about 4000, after that it seems ok! I have had the carbs cleaned and fitted new plugs and leads but this has made liitle difference. I am wondering it could be the coil or pulse generator, but do not know much about electrics. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Hi Mauricek - your misfire - my money would be on compression loss affecting at lower speeds - most likely cause - valve not sealing- rocker clearance too tight or damaged by leakage. easy check - with rear wheel raised off ground, turn motor gently using back wheel by hand with it in say 2nd or 3rd gear. should have equal compressions - positive resistance -1 per each engine revolution. if found absent or wanting, or too wheezy - try compression tester / valve clearance check. good luck!

It’s often the way...You can try and help people by answering questions, but quite often you don’t get a response (or any thanks). It can be frustrating..... But don’t let it put you off because I could certainly use a hand in answering the technical questions on this forum. It also would be nice if from time to time, people would help by greeting newbies.....

Sorry i didn't get back to you sooner, had other things stopping me from sorting it out for a while. finally after i changed plugs, caps and leads and had carbs cleaned, and checked fuel filter(ok), still little difference. in desperation i bought a coil on ebay ( complete with leads and caps) fitted it and now it's running fine again, much to my relief ( with me sometimes it seems to be more luck than judgement). thanks to all that took time to offer their help, much appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem on the rear cylinder of my Revere. I think you have just saved me a lot of time searching for the solution. Thanks. Chris
