Hi,
Can anyone tell me if this is a problem or not? Ive had a look around and picked up something from a Triumph forum from a guy who was saying that it can be normal for some R/Rs.
Im having fun and games with my system - I just bought the bike - it had a flat battery which I replaced but the one I replaced it with went dead after a few days and it became evident that the system is not charging. The guy I bought it from told me that he changed the R/R but with a second hand unit. The battery tonight read 12.5v I think which was a bit low because I was having trouble starting it after I stripped and rebuilt the carbs but with the engine running she now seems to be charing slightly, at around 13.4v if im lucky. However, when I rev the bike the voltage drops....? Is this right?
I also took a reading directly form the alternator which gave an output of 11v dropping to 8v when revving. Could this be a stator issue? I have yet to have a good thorough look over connections etc but nothing appears to be abnormal. Ive read that the starter relays can often corrode inside and affect the charging - anyone know?
Any help greatly appreciated - Im going to ride this bike through Spain and France in 5 weeks....!

Well it starts ok and the starter motor disengages correctly so I dont think its the starter relay. Have ordered new reg/rec as it seems the most likely cause - previous owner replace it himself but with a secondhand unit that Im guessing was faulty....
