hi folks,
i have had a Honda ntv 650 for 6 months now and have put a few thousand miles on her, bringing the total up to 95000 miles. i have done basic maintenance but only so far as changing wheels, pads and clutch cables.
the engine has been doing funny things for a while now and was meaning to get it sorted but have been very skint. was out yest and started losing power totally and blue smoke started coming out the exhaust and wdnt restart till cooled down. my mate said it was burning oil. had to call for pick up and now just trying to get some help as to what itmight be and if it's recoverable with a bit of work. was keen to get stuck into an engine at some point and now seems like a gd time!
the bike was overevving wen i turned the bars to the right and someone said the throttle cable cdv been stretched. had to counteract this by holding thebike at biting point wen stationery. also the coolant system was doing funny things and overheating rapidly and only a blast at 40 for 5 mins wd aircool it down again. figured tgerewas a blockage between the reservoir and engine. green fluid was also leaking onto the engine casing. tried to stop gap fix it by putting more coolant in.
recently the aircooling hadn't been making a big difference and the temp gauge was showing a v low ready wen i knew it was fairly hot.
was meaning to get in amongst the bike wen had a bit of money to repair but seems iv run out of time. about a week ago oil started leaking from the thing the clutch cable attaches to (not massively) and after the engine gave up yest, was collecting at the join from the exhaust to the silencer. also leaking at the connection from pipes to engine (quite a bit but not massively). wen we looked at the oil in the reservoir it was vaporising.
was hoping someone might be able to help with some suggestions as to how bad the damage cd be, what might be the part with the fault and whatever other parts of the bike might need repairing also.
thanks for your time, hopefully can get this one running again and maybe even learn something in the process!
cheers
James
