Hello, guys! My NTV's gearbox rattles in low revs. In 1st the sound is subtle, turning into noticeable knocking in 2nd and over. Over 3000 rpm the sound vanishes. The problem did not appear out of nowhere, I remember it rattling in low revs for all 9000 miles we've spent together. Red through some reviews and thought that's normal, yet my mechanic says it's going to perish shortly The bike was built in 1993, and has since traveled ~39.000 miles. Oil is some 300 miles old, 10w40 synthetic Repsol.

It depends on how well the previous owners have looked after it.....(see link below): growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=engine&action=display&thread=808You could try draining and filtering the oil. If there are any bits of metal in the oil then the damage may be terminal....It may be possible to repair but given the age of the bike it might be cheaper to replace the engine with a decent secondhand one with lower mileage.... growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1512On a less serious note it could just be the oil pump chain (behind the clutch drum) which can stretch and make an annoying rattle or tapping sound at low revs. Also check that there are no loose engine bolts..... growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=engine&action=display&thread=1015
