Hi, while out riding, my 1988 Revere spluttered to a halt, using a process of elimination I traced the problem to a faulty fuel pump, as a quick fix to get me home I disconnected the fuel pipes from the pump and reconnected the outlet side directly to the fuel filter thus bypassing the electric pump and relying on gravity to feed the carbs. Since then I have used the bike every day for a week to travel to and from work (a return trip of 25 miles) without any further problems, the bike starts/runs/performs exactly the same as before. My question for all you technical types is:- 1. what is the purpose of the electric fuel pump on this model. 2. what long term effect will this have. 3. should I remove the pump permanently 4. does anyone have experience of this problem. 5. has anyone else been running without a fuel pump. Thanks Terry.

also, try searching for other honda fuel pumps of the same era. i fitted a cbr600 pump to mine. even had the same electrcal plug on it. expect to pay approx £25 plus postage.
i have heard that in certain circumstances, i.e when 'making progress', gravity can't quite provide the flow required. also, as the tank gets low, it can have the same effect.
hope it helps.

My Son's NTV expired and it would seem that the fuel pump is the culprit. The bike runs ok from a jury rigged fuel bottle hanging above the bike. Whilst searching for a replacement on ebay I came across a replacement contact set for the NTV pump. £23.50 inc P&P the contacts on the original one look well worn so I'll give it a whirl. The bike was suffering from poor performance at high throttle openings, eg. overtaking. Hopefully this will cure that.

New points fitted, simple job involving a single soldered joint and a couple of screws. problem solved. You should be able to see the fuel pulsing in the clear fuel filter about every 2 seconds but only with the engine running, so difficult to prove if you are stuck with a non runner

I've posted recently concerning poor running which I realised was all down to fuelling. Anyway after stripping the carbs down and cleaning the jets I finally had the bike running great. Then....it wouldn't start. The fuel pump had packed up so I bought some replacement points and still no joy. So I looked for Revere fuel pumps on Ebay and found a replacement pump for £67 + P&P. A UK seller (kiwicomponents-uk) imports the pump from NZ and sends it (extremely quickly I may add) with fitting instructions plus all the bits and even a phone call!!! Absolute piece of cake to fit and certainly makes the bike go better. It has solid state electronics so no points to wear out. I would highly recommend this over a second hand one and I have attached a photo. AndyG Attachments:

Thanks for posting a picture but I can't find the item on eBay. Could you post a link when you've got the time? I might buy one myself.... Cheers.
