in my job lot of parts i got the other day i have one just like that, it has a small knurled screw for the pre load. it also seems a bit longer than the one on my revere. the only marking i can find on it is D11. not too sure what difference it would make if i fitted it?

According to Haynes, the first year, 1988, 600-J model had a shock without the remote adjuster, adjustable only for preload via a collar.
All other models have the remote adjuster, plus a rebound screw on the bottom of the shock.
