Engine cuts out. Loss of power.

Hi Guys, firstly merry Xmas to you all.
Secondly; i was out on the bike just recently just cruising along at a steady 70mph when the bike just "cut out" with a total loss of power. Luckily i was at the entrance to a lay bye. I pulled over and tried starting it again with nothing happening, not even the starter solenoid clicking ....nothing. Waited 5 Min's then it started again Any ideas ? Now when i try to start it it is a total nightmare, it wants to go with the choke on then it cuts out, try it again and nothing, not a thing. Tried it again today , same thing it started then cut out also makes a popping noise at the exhaust.....any ideas fellas as it's doing my head in !! All the best for the New Year.

If it’s not an obvious electrical fault then the
fuel pump may be faulty. See below for more info:

Thanks for the reply Jake, ive worked it out to be a "dodgy" start button. I opened it up and cleaned the contacts, works fine in dryer conditions but just hates the wet....
