The lights switch was already broken when I bought my NTV. The previous owner just said 'it doesn't matter because you have to have the lights on all the time when you are driving'. Last summer when operating the switch with a small screwdriver it somehow shorted causing several problems. Engine was running but no driving lights, no turn signals, no tachometer, no brake lights. Now I decided with my son to get all sorted out again. Ordered a new (used) from Yellow 13 Bike Breakers. I printed out the wiring diagram from the P.Lodz repair manual. Then I checked the fuses: the 15A was blown, but there was 5 fuses on the bike when the wiring diagrams has 4? The difference was just the headlight fuses: diagram has one fuse called 'Headlight' and my NTV has two. The bikes fusebox cover says 'Headlight LO' + 'Headlight HI'. Both fuses were OK.
After 'Plug-n-Play' installation -nothing worked. The new switch cluster was actually from a -98 Deauville and the plug fitted nicely to the NTV counter part. Then my son noted that the wires (colours) are not in the same order on the two plugs. Pulled out wires & brass strips from the Deauville-cluster cable plug and organized them to match the colours on the NTV wiring loom plug. Now the high beam started working and while switching it on/off strange clicking sound could be heard behind the right side cover. After some searching two relays were discovered as sources of the clicking sound. OK, there is one relay per filament in the headlight bulb. The only problem is that these relays are not appearing on any wiring diagrams I've been able to find from the internet, so far at least. The Low beam is still out. But the search will continue latest on next weekend.
