Hello,
my name is Michael Meijer (64), live in the Netherlands near Amsterdam and I pop up here for the 97-er NVT I bought this week. After 46 years of motorcycling my first Honda. No previous experience then, but I am definitely done with a chain as a secondary transmission, but did not want to return to a Yamaha XJ900 or similar for the weight and the eh... four cylinders. Quess I am looking for character next to a high utility rating. The latter is lacking with my Yamaha SZR660 that I bought for the (very) high fun factor, and regrettibly is for sale now due to an increasing neck sore on even short rides.
Next to a Haynes manual - as so far I do all the maintenance on my two-wheelers - I figured to link up with a forum that could provide me with a factual experience of troubles and subsequent remedies.
Such as the - much to my amazement - fuel pump that Honda deemed neccesary on this bike, a rather startling disturbance of the image of high reliability the NTV650 I had in mind.
Even more puzzling is how this pump is described to work, but that is to be studied elsewhere and later on.
For now I hope to get wiser being here once in a while, and perhaps I can contribute on occasion with this or that, depending on what this new bike tells me to focus on.
Did I say I bought the bike cheap? Either way, I feel I cannot complain about the slipping clutch I experienced on my (cold) ride to her new home on her. Or about a mere suggestion of braking when those stoppers were applied. I guess due to the 17" wheels I found the bike very flickable, so in order to explore her further the brakes and clutch will be high on the list of repairs to do.
Mind, the years of riding summer ánd winter are behind me now, so I will approach this project NTV in a more timely matter.
Should be continued, regards, Michael.
