Just a quick non-scientific comparison of two favourite NTV tyres..... According to the 'Rider Power Survey 2008': Out of Top 40 Tyres ....Avon Roadriders came in tenth and Bridgestone BT45’s twelfth….. Out of 20 Best Rear Tyre Life ....Roadriders came in tenth and BT45’s fourteenth… Out of Top 25 Dry Grip ....Roadriders came in tenth and BT45’s aren’t mentioned…. Out of Top 25 Wet Grip... Roadriders came in fifth and BT45’s came in thirteenth…. Only catergory were Roadriders aren’t mentioned is 20 By Best Front Tyre Life ... where BT45’s came in eighteenth……

How do folks!
Does anyone know of anywhere I can get the Avon tyres from? I'm currently in Northern Ireland and all the dealers here only seem to sell the Bridgestones. I'll be in Manchester in April if anyone knows of a place there too! Ta.

Wow! Bloody hell man. Thanks a heap! BCT looks like the cheapest for price and postage so I'm gonna go with them. Was debating whether or not to go for the Avons or the Bridgestones but seeing as I'll be doing 80% of my riding in crappy Northern Ireland/ Manchester weather I'll plump for the Avons as they sound to be better in the wet.
They're also about 20quid less on average than the BT45's. Either way, they'll be soooo much sexier than the random squishy poo that I've got already. This'll be my first ever purchase of brand newset of tyres. Will be weird having both front and rear the same...
Anyway, thanks Jake, you're a sexy man for that info. Ta!

You're welcome Beeblebrox.... As always with these firms, it's best to give them a ring beforehand to check they have what you want in stock.....

Noone ever tried the Bridgestone BT021's? I am going to Norway for 2 weeks in May and I need/want two new tyres because there are two different brands on it now and I'll be making a lot of miles in those two weeks, with parts still very cold and a chance on rain ofcourse. But i cant decide between the BT021 and the BT045... BT021

Hi Mark, Most members seem to favour BT45’s or more recently, Avon Road Riders. Another tyre which might be good with the NTV is the Dunlop GT 501. See link for more info: growell.proboards49.com/index.cgi?board=brakes&action=display&thread=729I’ve got the older version of the BT021 which is the BT020 which is a good tyre and seems to last well. The only complaint I'd make is that the BT020 has fairly stiff side-walls and I tend to feel the lack of 'shock absorption' over longer distances.

Righty, I've had a couple of weeks now and have to say, these Avons are bloody good! Very nice confidence in the wet and a fair bit cheaper than the Bridgstones. Was priced £119 for a set of Avons and £150 for the BT54's. So if you don't mind waiting a week-ish for the delivery I'd recommend BCTmotorcycles.

But £300 a pair....you coud practically buy a second-hand bike for that over here..... Although, it might need a new engine.
