Well i just forked out £177 for 2 new tyres for my NTV (fitted). Front is an Avon azaro rear is an Avon storm (wanted storm front and rear but they don't do a storm front for the NTV ). Absolutely f-cking brilliant, rode back from coleshill (near Birmingham) up the M42, then onto the M1, then onto the A52 into derby, it didn't shimmy or shake, wasn't affected by white lines or tar lines, stuck to the road like Pooh to a blanket, and i am still running them in ;D Never going to put cheap tyres on my NTV ever again. Will keep you all up to date as to wear rates as time goes on. Have a good easter ;D Odie

What 'cheap' tyres did you have on before?
Got Avon RoadRiders on mine, grip is good and 10k on the rear so far (about half worn, mostly motorway miles).

They were non branded, bottom of the range (£40 the pair)! But read on the deauville forum that some of the guys there were swearing by the storm so thought i would give it a go. Now with just under 500 miles on them they grip even better. Was out on saturday night in the pissing rain coming back to derby from boston (lincs), it was hammering down and i was sat averaging 70+ and it felt very stable, was passing most stuff on the road, never done that before in the rain on a bike, felt really steady, even on round-abouts. On tuesday was out blatting around with a mate on his "super moto" (ktm duke) and was leaving him for dead out of the bends and on the straights and he had "wets" on. ;D

Wow, didn't know anybody made any real cheapies in NTV sizes! Still, best give them a miss anyway from your experience. After my Severn Bridge experience last Friday in gale force winds I think I need all the grip I can get.

PS Road Riders were both £60something fitted. Might be a good compromise if funds are tight (as mine always are). Rumour has it that crossplys outlast radials, my experience so far would seem to confirm that.

I am going to change my tyres soon and have the OEM Dunlops fitted. I'm not very keen on the handling as they shimmy over white lines and road cracks, the rear is squared off though. I had thought of going for Bridgestone BT45s as I have had good results on other bikes.

I was thinking about them. I took a look at the "deauville" website as we didnt seem to have much info on here about tyre choice, thats where i read about the avon storm's and thought i wouls give them a go. 700 miles down the road they are handling really nice in all conditions, even when some thingy head pulled out on me tonight in the wet, on a road about, no slideing, just grip, some-thing i have never exerpienced before in the wet, lent over, using my brakes in anger. Where can you get the bargain/cheap tyres? In case I am short it would be a good alternative. For London commuting cheap tyres should be fine.
I checked some online shops but the Avon Road Riders seem to be quite expensive.
Cheers, Frank

I'm on Bridgestone Battleaxe BT45 front and rear and have been very pleased so far, that includes some very wet weather. Odie's account sounds grim, leaning over, wet and brakes aren't terms to use in the same sentence! I'm tempted to ask how many sets of skid marks were left I'm pleased to note his tyres performed better than the "Richard" head. I keep threatening to take a shortened shotgun or an MP5 when I'm out to deal with some of the idiots

Hi All -
I do about 10k on BT45s on a Deauville and they were great. Done about 2k on BT45s on an XJ900F andthey are great!
However - they are pricey compared with Avon RoadRiders (which should put you circa £100 for the pair fitted)
I'm expecting to put Roadriders on my NTV when I need to change - the OEM spec Bridgestone Exedras on the bike at the moment are rubbish compared with BT45s.
By the way there is a 7 page thread on tyres on page 2 of the technical section if you are interested.
All the best, and safe riding
- Tweaker

I have a BT45 on the back of my 600 revere and it holds the road well wet and dry. When it needs replacing I will get another.
