Bike Honda Bros -88 400cc
I noticed that my rear light was staying on so replace the swtich this morning with a new one. After I replaced the switch and check it was working fully. Went to start the bike and it makes this clicking sound and the bike will not start. I put a meter on the battery positive and on the frame and there is a current about 12v. All the lights are working including the break light and horn but the bike will not start. just a click noise
any ideas guys thanks

I'd suspect the battery, it's not a good test to check the volts across the terminals the battery needs to be loaded to get a true reading. Try putting the battery on charge, have you checked the water level in the battery? Whilst the lights will draw a few amps the starter motor is close to a dead short, if you put the lights on and hit the button the lights will dim to nothing if it's the battery.

Hi all Used this old post because it fits my problem. Just done oil change.....................(YUK like black treacle.. ) Locked up bike and washed hands came back hour later, key in clutch, ignition light on ( Red) Press starter.............Nothing, no click, no whirr..Fcuk ALL B!TCH !!.................(Haha...take that MISTER moderator.. ;D ) Put side stand back down and up, (Stand has Cut out) No joy. Stick it in Neutral (I know, starting in gear naughty, just lazy) she Starts..XXX I love her again. Before I get down and grubby, has anyone got any idea what may have caused this or what it is most likely to be, and maybe some simple things to check, before it lets me down BIG time (Like when I am late for work or Miles from home) (Think it also happened last week as well, but I put it down to not having kill switch 'On' when i first tried to start but it was definetely 'On' today...) Cheers for any help. Jaz

Sounds like the double diode taped inside the loom just behind the tank might have a problem, although it could be the stand switch's contacts...
