Hi. My bike NTV650 1996, developed a fault today.Where as the side stand, light won't go off.As soon as I put the bike into gear,it cut out.Which almost left me stranded. Is there a way to disconnect the switch, until I can get a new one.As I need the bike,I can't lay it up.As it's my only transport it the mo. Thanks. Steve.

I have to agree with the other half, mine's already been disconnected by a previous owner, they're all well and good while they're working properly, but they soon start playing up! Just as long as you remember to kick your stand up, it's not too much of a problem.

Done it,it is actually a three wire switch.Connect both greens together. But not the yellow/black.Unless you want the LED on the clocks lit up full time? Steve.

How important is the Side Stand Switch?
Is the only function to let the driver know if the stand is up or not? Is it help for beginners? I just wonder why the switch is there in the first place?
Hope my question makes sense?

Side stand cutoff is a common element in motorcycles, because without it you may forget about the side stand, start your motorcycle and begin riding with the side stand still extended.
It's not a big deal as long as you ride straight ahead or only turn right. The first time you try to turn left with the side stand still extended, however...
So yes, a sidestand cutoff is a good idea to have around. :-)

Thanks Lesley!
When I bought the NTV the previous owner made me aware of the constant yellow light on the indicator panel, covered by a piece of black tape.... The Side Stand Indicator.
Would you amend it if it was your motorbike?
I also have the neutral indicator which doesn't light blue, when in neutral?
Same question??

Colour should be green indeed. But in general, I couldn't life without the neutral indicator....as it's hard enough to find with the light I don't think I would ever be able to find it without the light.... The only thing I don't know, but I can hazard a guess, is that the neutral switch is trickier to get to then the sidestand switch. And yes, I would mend the sidestand indicator....it doesn't cost much (I think) and saves alot if ever needed. BTW if you read the posts above this...you know why the light stays on, and can at least fix that so you can get rid of the tape

If my sidestand switch became faulty I would replace it. My Honda XBR has a rubber extension on the end of the stand, designed to flip it up if you leave the stand down, without digging in. Yes it does work as I have found out. Having owned a couple of Guzzis, they have a really annoying safety feature, you take the weight of the stand and then ping it's up, if you are unlucky the ping is followed by a very loud crash.

Green is neutral, Blue is hi beam Thank you for the correction! I can't even say it's because I am colour blind!!! What I meant to say was that I have no green light indicating I am in neutral! And I was wondering if that could be connected to my side stand switch being cut off? BTW if you read the posts above this...you know why the light stays on, and can at least fix that so you can get rid of the tape Yes, I read the previous post and understand that I have to find the leads and reconnect some of them! I shall have a look at my electrical system! I might have some leads that needs mending?! Thanks!
