EHm...just a guess, but I think it's a shortcircuit in the ignition switch.... Does it matter if you lock it to left of right? If it does....perhaps a wire too short somewhere?

locking it to left or right it still does it. I have just been up to the shops to get some cigs come back out and the battery was flat i dident put the steering lock on so not to drain it but it was dead and had to push it home. i am now really confused

defo a short in the wire check the wires that are close to the frame & you might find that theres a bare wire thats been rubbing against the frame & shorting out

I was just thinking....you might want to check the wires for the light switch on the handlebars.... However....The lights should not be able to come on at all when the ignition is switched off. So any wire able to drain power, or light the rear light, should be a constant + wire. (are there any on an NTV? I can't think of any function for it)

generaly the only live wire would be the power to the ignition but that runs through the fuse on the starter selonoid but surely if it was touching the frame it would blow the fuse

Any "parking-light" function on your particular bike?

DPMiller beat me to it! One of mine has two stages to the steering lock, the first locks, no lights, the second locks and switches on side lights (front and rear). I'm guessing your has too, it's easy to turn the key through both stages and switch the lights on. If you did have a short, turning the bars to full lock should turn the lights on, regardless of steering lock, all that does is shoot the bolt into the socket on the frame.
Does your front light come on when you switch to side lights? I'd suspect your bulb may have gone if you have checked and only rear light is coming on.

Hope you managed to get all of the wiring back and working!
Hands up everyone that's never made a goof like that? Thought so, no hands seen! They're the best lessons - you'll never forget them.
That's a fine stable of bikes in the background, is the trike a conversion project for an NTV engine?
