Everydaybiker,
Couple of things, mate….
Earlier in this thread you questioned the notion of 36psi front, and 42 rear for the BT020 radials. And then in a later thread you said:
"BTW my NTV currently has odd tyres from when I bought it last month, Bridgestone BT020 rear, Michelin Macadam front. Doesn't seem to upset the handling / grip, although I have nothing to compare with!"
Not sure what this means? Did you fit the rear BT020 new or was it already fitted when you bought the bike, in other words secondhand? And what was the tyre pressure in the rear BT020?
Please don’t tell me it was the Haynes manual recommendation of only 33psi. If the pressure was that low then it doesn’t surprise me if it wore out earlier than expected….
Like I say we all have our own tyre preferences. On Hovis’s recommendation, I may well try the Metz lasertechs next time round. But I’ve never had any problems with BT020’s…..
Jake.

Hi. Finally got around to replacing my BT45's Went to shop got Avon Roadriders fitted.. Hi Jazz - Looks like you're the front runner in the Avon RoadRiders evaluation . Interested to hear how they shape up in different weathers and how well they wear. ( must get back to Avon and claim that commission they talked about . ) - Tweaker

Like I said originally (as quoted above), when I bought the bike in June it was already fitted with a Michelin Macadam up front and BT020 rear. Rear pressure was at 33psi but I've since increased it to 42psi. I don't know how many miles the tyres have done, except for the 4000 I've done since 22/6/07 (mostly motorway between Caerphilly and Swindon). It's just that in the last week the rear has shredded rubber like a crayon on hot tarmac! Obviously with the miles I'm doing no tyre is going to last a long time, but I'm minded to try Roadriders or Lasertecs from a cost point of view if I can get similar mileage (and grip) out of them.

Hi tweaker Everyday my confidence grows. Fully scrubbed in now. Bends are getting easier, around london (Crap roads) they wander less and feel more secure. Obviously the wet weather will provide the 'proof of the pudding' had it out in drizzle..OK but nothing too 'monsoon' Like.. Will update as and when I can add to the details Cheers jaz

Good night Jake ! - I know we're keen on this forum, but you're even worse than me - that's the mother of all lists! Perhaps you could follow on by giving us the low down on how each combination performs in the wet and dry, expected lifetime of each tyre in each set up and prices for the lot - Well done mate - Tweaker

Tweaker,
No problems mate,
I simply cut and pasted it from another web-site run by an NTV owner....
So far I've only used BT020's but may try the Metz lasertecs next time round because they're a lot cheaper!!
Jake.

I've got BT45's on the front and back and couldn't fault them (i do about 400 miles a week).
However, my new (to me) ntv will need both new tyres soonish and i was wondering what the comparisons are. I don't mind changing, i'm not brand loyal at all.
Is there scope on this site to run a comparison table? like a voting thing that users can give votes for a particular make?
I suppose tyres are just another variable, people like different ones for different reasons...

Hello Hoonose and welcome aboard. Tyres are a variable and everyone has their own notion. I use this word as I see many bikes being sold with tyres the new owner doesnt prefer. More often than not when it comes around to fitting replacements they mostly opt for the ones they didnt origonally prefer because they had got used to them and couldnt see anything wrong with them. There is far too much rubbish in the press about what has the best grip etc. There is almost nothing about everyday tyres. This is of no use to every day bikers. I put a posting on not long back and tried to stay unbiased although I do mention what tyres I am currently useing. I also tried to explain why radials dont wear so good. I also have a posting about the price. Look it up. Honda

Hi, yes i've just found and read (all of) your posts. Interesting stuff and i'll have a look at where i can get them from. Where about's do you get your tyres? I agree with what you say about 'inheriting' tyres that one wouldn't normally pick and then getting used to them. Would you mind telling me the model of tyres you use?
anyway, it's thanks to jim that i found this place, so i hope to read and learn aswell as post...
cheers

Hi hoonose. I currently wear Lasertec's in standard sizes. I am located as indicated on this forum in Co Antrim N Ireland (where you at) I get my tyres via my work. The prices I posted are the prices my work retail them at so it should be possible to get them elsewhere at about the same money although I have had a quick look on the net and we seem to be fairly cheap. There is no need for x/ply's to be expensive. PM me on this one if you need help and are within the UK. I have the choice of any tyre from Metzler/pirelli/michelin on a special deal basis as its me who does the purchaseing. But just one pair per year so I like something which grips and wears both. (+parts+warranty+just about everything that they decide to throw at me. All in a good day's fun I'm told!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) honda

Hi Hoonose.
Welcome to site.
There are a couple of 'Jims' on here
So if you saw this link on e-bay, it was probably me. it was a pointer for owners / Potential buyers to look around at what Owners thought of the NTV.
My post on tyres was for Avon Roadriders.
Seem fine to me and I had BT45's before.
Enjoy site, post often. why not post pic and Pin in on 'Map'
You mention meeting? The bike Museum one perhaps?
Saw the link to wales, but I will be on holiday during that week.
Enjoy & ride safe

Hiya, i was selling a revere (should have kept it!!!!) and 'jim' got in touch and recommended a look at this site (glad he did Anyways, i'm in liverpool, do alot of miles, have a 'new' 94 ntv 650 and have got quite adept at valve clearences and other work since owning 3 nt(v's). I'd like to give these metzler's a go as they sound like they could do the trick (couriers can't be wrong....can they?)

Hoonose -
As you've had experience of both, do you notice much difference between Revere and NTV? Thinking particularly about the riding experience.

Hiya Derek and all, i really loved the revere but hated it at the beginning. I had the deauville 650 first so i got abit spoilt with the riding position and other dulville extras. When i first rode the revere, i thought i'd never get used to the 'lean forward' riding position but in the end it felt just right. funny that. Anyway, when i rode the new 650 back home it felt big and roomy and my knees didn't ache anymore...
I took the revere out for a spin before the new owner arrived (and to check it all out) and it just felt weird again, all bunched up and awkward and the sore knees came back immediately!
The revere felt racey, it went very fast (115 afew times...) and the gears never slipped (not like the new one!!!).
Out of the two, i'd have the 650 any day plus it's got panniers and a better paint job! but if i spot a cheap revere on ebay i'd have it!
The tyre situation just got more serious today as i did about 200 miles in the wet and the tyres were awful! They are michelin macadam radial's (3mm on each) and just seem so slippy! I had to take it really easy on corners (never a problem on the revere as i could even get my knee down on that thing) as it felt (and did on severeal occasions) as though it could skid out at any moment.
Has anyone else experience of these tyres? The pressure is higher (35/40) than i have used on the revere (33 front and back on bt45's - although i see on this site that people are saying higher on the back) so perhaps that has something to do with it?
If you know (or have any ideas) i'd be happy to hear it!
cheers
