i've searched honda tools, e-bay ect, i need the right tool for removing the swingingarm so i can spray up a frame, any tips/sites ect on a getting a good spanner for the job, otherwise i might have to canibalise a perfectly good socket

Hi Ilegalalien, welcome to the gang. Unless you get the right tool, you're in for a most unpleasant experience. I don't have my manual today, so I cannot remember what the Torque setting is for the Swinging Arm, but they're tight, and mine were locktite'd in too. I tried several places to get the special tool (no Honda Main Stealers nearby) without success. My local chappie had a suitably butchered socket, which I tried - no success. I borrowed an impact wrench, but as the socket had not been heat treated after butchery, it just ripped apart. I did eventually manage to get one side loose and removed, then it was a bit easier to get the other side off, but I dread having to put it all back together (when the frame has been powder coated) without the proper tool. (I have not removed the swinging arm from the bike I'm riding) There is a thread elsewhere in this group that shows some tools, including the swinging arm device, fabricated by another member. I have a vested interest, so I'll be watching for the successful result. PS - I do intend to contact the nearest Honda Main Stealer and see if I can borrow/rent theirs and hope they have one!

Hi Without the genuine Honda tool or something home made like mine below you will have a major problem once you re install the swing arm. If the torque setting is to low you will have slack in the taper roller bearings,If the torque is to high you will get premature failure in them.Unless you can get a tool I would advise not attempting removal.
