A word of warning re. the above. Obviously these racks are not large and heavy guage, so it makes sense not to overload them. However the rack for the NTV (and presumably others) has a sticker saying maximum load 2.5kg. My rack has only been on a few weeks (end of June) and has broken. I have a topbox fitted but it hasn't had heavy weight in there. Renntec refused to replace it as they say the rack is "not suitable for use with a topbox" and stating that they make this clear in their advertising. However take a look at their website renntec.co.uk and there's no mention of that, or even any load limit. I bought the rack from wemoto.co.uk (World's End Motorcycles) and their service has been excellent. It seems even they weren't aware that Renntec are taking this line (i.e. saying not suitable for a topbox). Kind of makes me wonder what you can use a Renntec rack for, if not for carrying something I imagine very little if you're not using any sort of topbox. Wemoto are footing the bill on this occasion (although I don't feel they should have to). Needless to say I add my voice to many others who have recommended them on this and other forums. It's good to see a company that values the customer more than profit when the situation requires it - Renntec could learn a lot from them........ Derek

A bag of sugar is 2Kg, so the weight limitation is very restrictive. I do not have a top box, otherwise I would weigh it, and imagine the empty box must take up a considerable amount of the recommended limit. Having just checked Givi's website, it appears most boxes and mounting plates weigh circa 5Kg!
I think Renntec's response is disgraceful; Wemoto's response however is no surprise. I must repeat myself and praise them for excellent service and superb after sales backup.
For interest, I have used the "contact us" on Renntec's Website with the following query:
Hi I'm thinking of buying one of your sports racks to fit my Honda NTV 650. I use the bike for work commuting and touring, circa 400 mile trips once per month. I have a Givi Monokey Top Box. Are you aware of any fixing problems that would prevent me using the plate and box on the rack?
I hope to get a reply and will post it in this thread.
I suggest that depending on the nature of their reply, we all consider mailing them with messages of our feelings.

So where did it break/ what was it's failure mode? And what size of box did you mount on it? Weight limits are just that- the maximum weight you can apply directly to the rack. Add a box and not just are you adding the weight of the box, but also lengthening the platform.
So?
It's a cantilever. Double the length of the rack and you're doubling the force on it's mountings. A couple of kg, evenly distributed in the box, will load the back of the bike twice as much as if it was straight on the rack.
Mine works fine. Waterproofs or a bit of shopping cargo-netted to it, no hassles.

blimey like a helmet with smallprint 'not suitable for human head'. 2.5kg is a rucksack, 12 rashers of bacon and packet of tea bags isn't it? you're spot on about wemoto - never had to test their aftersales, but their speed of delivery, and ease of use is everything you could want.

Hi EDB Sorry to hear about your rack.... Remember reading something about you getting it and adding a topbox..? Great to see that some companies stand by their customers.. NO!, NOT Renntec Wrecks....(Pah..!) SUPER Wemoto.... Yahoo!!.. ;D Not used either, but wemoto keep coming out as a top company to do business with............... Not wishing to add to your woes, BUT anyone considering fitting a top box to a rack AND expecting to actually put something in it bigger than a sandwich.........Pick a GIVI rack..! Solid and surpisingly adaptable and LOADS of Boxes out on e-bay that actually Fit the rack.... ;D I got one and it's the 'Dogs Danglies' to use a polite Phrase... But back to your point............. SHAME on you 'Renntec'..for poor after sales service as a politician once said 'It's not fit for purpose' (Note to Renntec sales people, It's a RACK, people ARE going to put things on it........DUH!! ) and Let's BIG it up for Wemoto........... = (Double cool... ;D ) Hope wemoto's new rack brings you better luck (Maybe get it and stick it on e-bay asap and get a givi...? ) Enjoy & ride safe jaz

Looks like someone is planning a noisy night in!
Give Renntec their due, I have had a reply; here it is:
Hi Ian
Thankyou for your enquiry.
Our carriers are not designed to take Top boxes as this exhorts to much stress on the rack and the maximum weight limit is 2.5kg. However we are aware that people do use them for this purpose, it is down to the discretion of the customer as to how they use their carrier, we as a company would advise against it.
If \i can be of further help, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards

Interesting, according to the dictionary, Exhorts = to urge, advise, or caution earnestly; admonish urgently. Inappropriate smelling (pun intended) of "too" Is this really the generation that is getting criticism for doing well in their exams?.
I sense some value in dialogue, so will reply and keep you posted.

Update:
Kind of a long story but now getting new Givi rack at very good price less what I paid for the Renntec, and they're throwing in a couple of pairs of brake pads for my trouble!
I reiterate, this is of course Wemoto and not Renntec making this gesture. Can't praise them highly enough so I'll just recommend them to anyone for customer service instead - a company who seems to appreciate the value of customer service and the returning business it generates.
Unlike Renntec it seems.............

i have a rent-kneck sitting in t shed, usless piece of smeg... bought it from a picture of e-bay, recieved delivery only to find it can carry one house brick, talk about usless, thank god they dont make tyres otherwise we would be pushing our bike around.. Good choice a Givi, i favour the topbox on t seat for heavy loads as it moves t weight forward thus making t bike more stable...
