I may have to take my friend on pillion for a 45 miles journey tomorrow, he is a strapping 6ft4 Do you think I should adjust the suspension - Having never had adjustable suspension before - I ain't got a clue

It's all down to personal preference. Strapping and 6'4" makes me think he's heavy, the main consideration.
I like my back end tight (said the actress...) and normally ride solo on about 50% adjustment. Taking a pillion (my ever so petite (in case she reads this!) wife) I normally preload to 100%.
I would suggest pre load to 100% and give it a try, probably better than starting off with a wallowing saggy rear suspension.
To adjust, remove left side panel, there is a large (2" dia) dial top, screw in clockwise to increase pre load. I think there are circa 3 full turns of adjustment, but a scale on the body should show how far you've turned it. You may have adjustable rebound damper adjustment. There are 3 settings, try the middle to start. This needs a flat balde screw driver, adjustment is the screw at the bottow of the shocker. Hardest setting is fully clockwise.
Let's hear how it goes, good luck

I'm delighted it worked for you. Did you leave the suspension as it was or have you reset to your previous arrangement?
Any progress with the Speedo drive?
