It's probably the worm drive at the wheel. Try fitting the cable to the back of the speedo, get a screwdriver and insert into the bottom of the cable (where it fits the worm drive), turn the screwdriver, you should see some movement on the needle. Let's presume that works. jack up the front of the bike with front wheel clear of the ground. Spin the front wheel and look in the hole that the cable fits into on the workm drive. You should see the flat blade turning around. If it does not (my guess) drop the front wheel out and take a look at the gubbins inside. There should be a large flat "washer" with two lugs on the outside. This transmits the wheel rotation to the worm drive. My guess is that the lugs have flattened/broken and are not doing their job. This link is the best I can do at present. 216.37.204.203/Honda_OEM/HondaMC.asp?Type=13&A=54&B=37The suspect item I've referred to is No 7. If the lugs are flattened, you should be able to bend them back. If you need gear ratios/speeds in revs/gear, let me know, always helps to be somehwere near the limit, or know when you're exceeding it.

^^wot he said. If you ( someone) bolt the wheel up with the drive tangs aligned, the metal drive washer jobbie will bend. BTDT once when rushing to get the wheel back in...
