Hi all. i was wondering if anyone can give me a quick summary as to the workings of the centre stand for NTV. For example, is it just the main spring that holds the stand in the home position or is there additional parts?
The problem is i dont have one fitted to my bike so i dont know. I have mulled over purchasing a centre stand for ages for various reasons. IE not being able to remove the wheels wiithout using other awkward options plus i dont like all that endless parked side stand pressure/weight that is placed on the swing arm and headrace bearings, hence my reason for the centre stand.
Any feedback would be great. Many thanks.

Thanks Jake, looks rather straightforward until i noticed i have no-collector box. Just when i thought things were going well! I'm having the same problem as Gripper growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=body&action=display&thread=1422. I checked the underneath of my bike the other day and noticed the same as Gripper. I have a Fuel system exhaust, collector free (on the bike when i got it) so stumped again as the collector box has the key home stay bung attached. (see thread here, kindly found by Jake, which shows the bung attached to collector box www.stoeretassen.nl/My_NTV650/Middenbok/Centre_stand.htmI also noticed Professor's thread/comment which he states Motad supply an extra piece to full fill this shortfall. (i wonder if he means the collector box: see below)? I visited Fuels web page and submitted a contact inquiry to see if they supplied an additional part (but closed for holidays). Just my luck!! I also visited Motad just to be nosey in response to Professor's thread but their web page states that they supply collector boxes with all their exhaust systems and do not omit crucial parts (i guess collector boxes?). I assume there must be some kind of solution/modification/part available as i have found a few NTV's with the very same exhaust system as i have on Fuels gallery (including centre stand). www.fuelexhausts.com/gallery_detail.cfm?subid=15&id=3How frustrating! Can anyone enlighten me further and dampen my frustration, at least until Fuel return from annual leave!!

It's no big deal... In my experiance the rubber bung or stop is not essential. I seem to remember Kirriepete actually used a rubber door-stop fitted below the foot rest hanger... (See thread below): growell.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=tech&thread=1650&page=1#9014My Motad doesn't have a collector box but Motad supply a bung which fits on the left hand side of the bike. The bung or rubber stopper does not fit to the exhaust itself, so there's no need to worry about it fitting to your Fuel exhaust.... But I've never fitted the bung to my bike. When the stand is up, I believe it rests on the exhaust or foot rest hanger but I've never found this to be a problem and its never caused any damage. I've long since lost the bung that Motad sent but I'm sure if you ring them they'll supply it separately (i.e. you don't need to buy one of their exhausts for it to fit). Just phone Motad and they'll give you more info. Or use Kirriepete's solution....

Yep, still doing the business, even with a Fuel pipe on it now: If you look closely at the pic you can see the stand comes up on the inside of the pipe, so there's no worries with the Fuel hanging a bit lower than the Moturd. Bike parts? Get mine from B&Q! I recommend the idea to the house ...

Just an update. Took your advice Jake contacted Motad today and they do in fact supply a bracket that makes up for the missing collector box. Anyone having the same problem as i can purchase this bracket on its own, currently £11.40 inclusive of vat and postage. See photo of the bracket below. Attachments:

Centre stand spring/s. Finally fitted the centre stand but can anyone tell how to fit the centre stand spring ? Have tried fitting them and not even no where near the fitting lug. I'm starting to think are they actually the right size as they need to be sretched somewhat to be able to fit. Quite a hefty spring (similar to side stand spring). Have tried pulling with pliers and the likes and the spring is going no where!!
Any help suggestions most grateful.

Clamp the bottom of the spring in a vice, then bend the top over with a pair of pliers or mole grips. Slip washers into the gaps thus created between the coils, then bend the top over the other way and add more washers. Keep doing this until the washers have increased the spring length enough to slip over the lugs. The first time you put the stand down the spring will stretch and the washers will all fall out. Simples!

Thanks Kirriepete, great idea but I,m guessing I have the wrong size spring as the gap between spring and spring lug is roughly 3 to 3 1/2 inch! I attached some nylone string to the spring and the other end to a screwdriver just about got there when thenylon snapped. Also warped the end of the spring. Surely must be the wrong one. I bought the stand of e bay which should have had the spring. E mailed seller and assured he would send it which he did but my guess its the wrong one.
Just frustrating I thought fitting the stand and additional stand stay and door stop would cause the most trouble. Little did I know it would be the spring. Only option now is to order one from Fowlers to be sure I,m getting correct one. Will try your method Kirriepete when recieve the correct spring.

why not leave the stand off until you need it for work or maintanice or until you come across a spring the right size

No big deal going without the spring untill I get the correct one. Me being me when I start a job I need to finish it Kev. Just having a gripe.
Never liked it stored for long periods on the side stand with all the weight/ stress on the steering bearings.

Thankyou Jake for the links you have answered my question and solved my problem. Looking at the diagram confirms my initial concerns of having the wrong spring/s. The ones I have are for the side stand.
The part number you provided Jake is correct and matches the one I recieved from Fowlers below. The large and small inner springs respectively.
50541MS9000 and 50502MS9000, they are £5.37 and £3.83+vat from Fowlers.
Thanks for the feedback guys and the researched links Jake.

Finally fitted the centre stand! Hooray! Anyone wanting to fit a centre stand and having the same problem as i did, that is, no collector box serving the the stand stay i suggest following the whole of this thread. I followed Frank'y boy's pictorial step by step guide here www.stoeretassen.nl/My_NTV650/Middenbok/Centre_stand.htm. If you don't have a collector box you need a bracket that takes its place that can be purchased from Motad exhausts (see earlier thread photo). I also attached a rubber bung to the circular end of the bracket acting as the stay (this was a rubber doorstop). Finally i bolted the other end of the bracket using the fixing bolt recess on the bike frame as in the photo below. This then points downwards allowing rubber bung/stand contact as the collector box would do. Just for reference the stand i used came of a Deauville 650 and fits OK. Attachments:
